Welcome to Holy Needles!

FREE lessons in crocheting and knitting! FREE materials provided to any Holy Needles member who wants to be a part of this rewarding ministry!

Our main focus is contributing beanies, booties, and blankets to the disadvantaged newborns in the Tucson region. Some of these infants have nothing, yes, NOTHING to go home with... they are that indigent! We provide at least a new, fresh soft covering for their precious newborn bodies.

Holy Needles started with 8 members, and we have grown to scores of members, and welcome anyone who would like to share in our joyous giving!

As of June 2010, Holy Needles expanded its ministry to also create scarves for children & adults for Samaritan's Purse worldwide programs, and we created lap blankets and shawl/blankets for homebound! Come join us!

As of September 2010, we again expanded our ministry to create blankets for cancer patients at local oncology treatment centers, and blankets for homeless in the region.

Holy Needles is open to anyone of any age... anyone willing to create items for those in need.

We meet twice a month... the 3rd Monday 1-4, and the last Saturday 9am-noon, in the Ocotillo bldg, on Casas Church campus. Join us!!

Holy Needles’ Crochet Booties in the Round

These booties are crocheted in the round, are very easy to make, and require no sewing of seams! Enjoy creating these beautiful booties for a newborn, or adapt for larger sizes.

Materials: G, H, or I hook, and soft worsted yarn, such as simply soft.

The length of a newborn’s foot is 3 – 3.5 inches. Everyone’s tension is different, and hook size and yarn type all make a difference. When in doubt, rip it out!

Bootie:

Ch 4, join. Wrap yarn tail around circle so it can be pulled later (to close hole).

R1: ch 2, 7 dc into circle. Sl st into 1st dc. (7)

R2: ch 2, 1 dc in same st; 2 dc in each st around. Join with sl st into 1st dc. (15)

R3-5: ch 2, 1 dc into same st, dc into each dc. Join with sl st into 1st dc. (15)

R6: ch 2, dc into next 12 st, leaving last 3 sts undone. Ch 2, turn. (12)

R7: dc into each st. ch 2, turn. (12)

R8: dc in each st. (12)

With right sides together, sl st back seam. Pull long loop along seam (or you can sl st 1/2 way up the back to decrease loop length, and decrease tension). Remove hook and turn bootie right side out.

Cuff:  Insert hook into top of bootie just to left of back seam.

R1: ch 2, work 16 dc evenly around top edge. Join with sl st into 1st dc. (16)

R2: ch 2, dc in each st around. (16)

Edging: ch 1 and sc in each st. Join with sl st. (or use any stitches you desire!) Fasten off and securely weave in ends. Do NOT knot your work… weave back and forth inconspicuously instead.

Optional: ch 70 to make ‘shoelace’ to weave in and out of the first cuff row created.
